When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “I pray you, let me inherit a double share of your spirit.” And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it will be so for you; but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.” And as they still went on and talked behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they know that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Chapter 5: The Sermon on the Mount
  • Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Is 57:15; 61:1 For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:

“I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite…”  The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted, he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.

  • Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Ps 126:6 He that goes forth weeping, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

But if her father expresses disapproval to her on the day that he hears of it, no vows of hers, no pledge by which she has bound herself, shall stand; and the Lord will forgive her, because her father opposed her.

Sir 23:9-10 Do not accustom your mouth to oaths, and do not habitually utter the name of the Holy One; for as a servant who is continually examined under torture will not lack bruises, so also the man who always swears and utters the Name will not be cleansed from sin.
